Our work for hire is billed by the hour or by the job quote. Clients are granted unlimited, but non-exclusive usage rights. We bring an assistant, and a variety of off-camera lighting and tripods to photograph both indoors and outdoors. Note that the viewer can see the details of the outside through the windows as well as the inside of rooms. We light with a purpose, dimension without glares, or loss of shadow or highlight details and especially without the color shifts that our HDR competitors are getting.
Johnny’s three regional coffee table books have sold over 40,000 copies, making him one of South Dakota’s top-selling authors. Approximately 20 of his finest images are available as personally signed prints in various sizes and presentations. Johnny’s images of the Black Hills are wonderful for decorating high class homes, offices, restaurants, and hotels.
Most of our senior work is outside in exciting locations like: waterfalls, creeks, bridges, aspen groves, rock cliffs, ghost towns, railroad tracks, downtown, old trains, warehouses and more! We also have our own personal outdoor studio on Rapid Creek west of Rapid City with a variety of retro props including a gas pump, two old pickup trucks, a chairlift chair, barnwood walls, tire swing, and much, much more!
We can photograph three outfits per hour, and we do sessions of 1, 1.5, 2, or 2.5 hours. We have no extra charges for retouching, your props, or your favorite locations unless they are outside of Rapid City. We require that you bring an adult along to these sessions if you are 17 or younger. Call us about clothing, hair, and makeup advice. Bring a friend to be photographed as well for no extra charge!
Johnny enjoys location engagement sessions and detail work for that perfect image to help you introduce and decorate your wedding. Staff photographers Kendrea and Christine both enjoy photographing maternity sessions in the studio, and we are sure both you and your spouse will love our final results. Also ask us about our TimeLine album special.
All of our wedding coverage includes two highly-skilled photographers, a 10”x10” hard-page 20-page personally designed and fully-retouched coffee table album, PLUS digital files and usage rights. We don’t worry about the time involved in the wedding coverage, but photograph the bride getting ready until the third or fourth dance of the evening.
Our coverage is a nice blend of candid photojournalism, with skillfully lit and posed traditional images of the families and wedding party. All of our photographers have photographed hundreds of weddings. Don’t trust this special day to anyone — wind, tardiness, direct afternoon sunlight, rain plans, camera troubles, computer troubles all wreak havoc on the amateur.
Is your photographer writing to a backup memory card simultaneously? Do they use off-camera lighting outdoors? Backup cameras? Does he or she have weights and metal umbrellas and an assistant? A schedule of formal photos? Pose heavier people to look thin? Will they dress up as nicely as your guests and be respectful of the event and the bride’s plan for the day?
Whether on location or in the studio, our family images are our pride and joy. We take pride in classical lighting and posing in exciting environments. Our 36 megapixel camera gives our customers tack-sharp face details in 50-inch prints and larger.
We are always happy to get that extra shot of Grandma and Grandpa with the grandkids, or each of the smaller families within the large family. Now is the time for your family portrait. Your kids will not look like this again.
Our warm and cozy camera room is full of props for young people. Johnny enjoys photographing young people on location, and staff photographer Christine Riegel absolutely LOVES photographing little people in the studio.
These are times in your child’s lives that need to be recorded. Don’t delay, your little ones at this age change so fast and the images we capture are priceless.
Johnny Sundby Photography is Rapid City’s premier sports team resource and has been since 2004. We pride ourselves in terrific lighting, backgrounds, camera angles, and poses. Our price sheet offers nearly 30 different low-priced, high-quality products.
We believe in youth sports and therefore donate a significant amount of money back to nonprofit leagues through our “profit-sharing-fundraising plan”. Generally that amount is around $15,000 per year that we give back to youth sports. We believe in the community where Johnny and Stephanie grew up, and we also are very active on local boards and try very hard to do OUR part.
Our photographers have state-of-the-art lighting, 120 volt batteries, high mega-pixel cameras, weights, metal umbrellas, and excellent posing skills. Our graphic designer is one of Rapid City’s finest and came to us via the Rapid City Journal. We deliver in two weeks generally, have 9-5 open door office hours, and fix any problems we may have made quickly and kindly.
